01.85 - The Landing is the Worst Part

Apologies, apologies.  Its been a busy coupla weeks, and I'm lazy.  Mostly the latter.

Ryan and Julianne had a poker game at their place Saturday night.  It was a good time, mostly because I left with some of my own money.  The bonus was I got to take some money from Julianne.  Its a rarity and hence, it gives me a special feeling.  Kinda like polio, I imagine.

My travel tally over the last 8 days:

And now, I get to relax in the office for the foreseeable future.  So thats nice.

The flight to and from Detroit was totally full.  I've got big shoulders, so I always make upper arm friends with my plane neighbors.  The girl next to me on the return flight was Latino and had really long fingernails.  In the case of emergency, I'm pretty sure I would die due to puncture wounds.  Even if everyone else made it out unscathed.

ST's shindig is going down this weekend.  Its gonna get rowdy.  I may play more of a supportive role on this one; I've been drinking enough lately to sit one out.  In any case, I know this crowd...they may need a sober wingman to divert cops, etc.  In any case, I'm broke.  Too much travel and such, but I've worn that topic well dry amigos.

My rental car yesterday was a Mercury Mountaineer with a sveet speaker setup.  I sang "Santa Monica" by Everclear at the top of my lungs somewhere between Toledo and Findlay.  Love that song.  And the next song was "Vitamin R" by Chevelle and it was really on, bitches.  And after two songs I bask in my own afterglow and think, yeah, I should have started a band and been the lead singer.  Because thats what humans do...sometimes they dream totally outside their limits of possibility with illusions of grandeur.  Me singing on a stage somewhere ends up with someone saying, "Who let the fuckin' engineer on stage?"

I missed you all.  I visited the blog every night and sighed, for I knew I couldn't give any worthwhile effort in a hotel room somewhere.  It was all very soul-draining.  Whorish.  Can't explain it.

Overheard at Metro Airport, Detroit this evening, coming from a very large man in a suit speaking very loudly, "I stood up and told those guys they were such pussies!"  I imagined this guy in some boardroom somewhere, listening to the president's business plan, and getting up and saying this like some scene out of 'Hitch'.  To get in good with the rich girl with all the investment ideas.

Fantasy baseball 68% of the way completed.  Being commissioner gets a bit tired every once in awhile.  I have a real want to be fair and right and compassionate to the managers in the league, but sometimes I snap out of my friendliness coma and I realize we're playing in a free league for fun.  And then I don't give a shit if someone's trade got vetoed.  Its a free market kind of league.  I'm not going to be your socialist president.  But maybe next year (if I'm still doing it), we define the rules a bit more clearly on trades.

Looking forward to handing the fantasy torch to Ryan so he can enjoy the draft afterglow and then get hit by all the whining that comes shortly thereafter.  Only then I'll be doing the whining, so its all good for me.

On that note I've expended my brain of all random happenings, and now I must find a way to financially survive for the next three days.  Seriously.  But don't worry - come Friday, I'll be rich, bitches!

You may have taken money at MY house.. but it was not from me! I left $2.50 up.... put $5 in and came out with $7.50. However, you did outplay me. If you can call chewing on a bottle cap and eating all of my peanuts a skill....
